holiday festivities 21

Mona Pendleton | Friday, December 6, 2013 @ 4:05 PM | , , , ,

Hi there! I have some exciting crafty news to share! Debbi Tehrani, (Owner) of the Color Stories Inspiration site has invited me to join along as a Guest Detective this month! In case you are not familiar, CSI is a weekly scrapbook challenge site that encourages one to try new colors schemes and to tell your stories.

Here is this week's story:
I created a holiday layout featuring a photo of my sweet dog Griffin.
I added a few flower embellishments from my stash and some die cut foliage that was made using a few Spellbinders dies:
I adhered a few metal frames that I pulled out from my stash that were probably about 10 years old or so. To add a little more shine, I rubbed on Silver buff and for a dangling accent, I tied a few jingle bells to one:
To incorporate circles and for added design, I stenciled on circles using the Graduated Dots stencil:
Here is how I incorporated the different elements from the story:

Color:
Used all of them
Evidence:
Frames, Silver Accents, Something Dangling, Something Shiny, Circles
Testimony:
Journal about the holidays. Inspiration words: Family and Peace

Thanks so much for visiting! For some amazing inspiration, please visit the CSI site and see what all the other designers created. I hope you join along in the fun!
Be Sweet ;)

Feel free...CSI100 23

Mona Pendleton | Friday, November 29, 2013 @ 4:01 PM | , , , , ,

Hi there! I hope you are having a great week! Several members of the 13 arts DT members including myself, will be joining along as guest detectives with the talented CSI DT for the CSI challenge #100!
I created a layout featuring a photo of Meredith that was taken a few years ago while we were vacationing on Kauai.
To create this layout, I first created the sunburst designed background using the brick patterned paper from 13 arts All Is Love set. Once I had the background stitched in place, I added a lot of texture using a combination of my all time favorite 13 arts products ~ Glass Microspheres D2 mixed with Gel Medium
Once the texture mediums were dry, I lightly applied 13 arts Ayeeda Matte Lemon Paint and 13 arts Ayeeda Gesso:
I embellished with a 13 arts White Twig and a beautiful 13 arts Paper Flower Cream.

Colors: All colors used

Evidence: Stars, brick patterned paper, lightbulb

Testimony: Journaling features the word light.

Thanks so much for visiting ~ I hope you like my layout! Please be sure to visit the CSI site as well as the 13 arts blog for some amazing inspiration and for COMPLETE details on how you too can join in the fun!

Adventure 41

Mona Pendleton | Friday, September 6, 2013 @ 5:19 PM | , , , , , , ,

Hello! Hope you are enjoying the weekend! We don't have any big plans, simply enjoying being home :) Last week, Scott and I were at our home away from home in San Diego relaxing and while there, we went to the International Sand Sculpting competition. Wow! What talent!!!

Today I have a layout to share featuring a photo of Meredith and I that was taken while on a trip 9 years ago while vacationing on Maui. Time flies!!!
I made my own background paper using the Gelli Arts plate and various colors of acrylic paints. I cut 4 strips of the paper then stamped and heat embossed one of the beautiful designs from Textile Backgrounds. I also stamped the chicken wire image from Distressed Background Blocks as well as several images from Washi Patterns
I embellished the layout with a single hibiscus bloom from Tropical Sensations as well as two beautiful butterflies made using Fancy Butterflies:
For color and other tidbits, I joined along with the Color Stories Inspiration challenge #87:
The Scheme: Use ALL 5 colors (done)
The Evidence: Use at least 2 clues
butterflies, arrows, stitching
The Testimony: Write about a trip / Make your journal wander across the page
wrote about a trip to Maui and made the journaling wander

For sketch inspiration, I joined along with SCRAPfriends
Many thanks for visiting ~ Hope you enjoy the weekend!

Road Trip 30

Mona Pendleton | Tuesday, August 27, 2013 @ 5:33 PM | , , , , , , ,

Hi there! I was thrilled to have been relieved of Jury Duty yesterday :) It's like clock work for me, every two years to the day I receive that little "love note" in the mail telling me it's my time to serve. According to the latest census bureau information, Phoenix, AZ ranks 6th in the nation for highest population ~ I find it hard to believe that the other millions of people served within that 2 year period?! Am I the only one who doesn't like to serve on a jury? Either way, I'm happy I didn't get stuck on a jury this time like 2 years prior.

I feel like I am all over the spectrum with my creating ~ I love to make all sorts of projects, love to try new techniques and play with a variety of products. I don't even know what my style is, sort of depends on my mood and what I'm making the project for. Are you the same way or do you have a clear cut style? I think one thing that I'm quite sure about is that I do love lots of layers and fluff! I pay the price for this at the post office when I mail a greeting card because even one little button jacks up the price.

Today I have a layout to share featuring lots of layers and embellishments. I scrapped a photo of Connor and Meredith that was taken years ago when we took a road trip to Southern California and spent the day on the Santa Monica Pier.
I combined several flowers with a few metal trinkets, including a metal rose and heart shaped lock.
Couldn't have a lock with a key right? :)
For added interest, I randomly stamped the polka dot image from Distressed Background Blocks and the gears image from Collage Backgrounds then layered a few metal gears and a fancy butterfly on top.
I pulled out my vintage typewriter and used it to type my journaling on the die cut tag that was made using Die-namics Tag, You're It die which I topped it off with a Sno Cone button and hemp bow
I was inspired to make this layout for the CSIS365 challenge:
The Scheme: Use all 5 colors: (done)
The Evidence: Use at least 2 clues:
Metal (metal trinkets), Circles (gears and polka dot stamp)
The Testimony: Tuck your story into something
Journaled on a tag and stuck it in a die cut pocket

Thank you for stopping by ~ I hope you are inspired to create.
Be Sweet ;)
