Poppies and White Blossoms 38

Mona Pendleton | Friday, January 15, 2016 @ 10:11 PM | , ,

Hi! So happy the weekend is here! I've been practicing painting with acrylics along with various mediums which help prolong the drying time. Still quite haven't figured out the best formula that works for my skill level, but I'm not throwing in the towel just yet! Today I have a page in my art journal to share that was inspired by David Jansen:
I'm not thrilled with the white blossoms but I had to stop and walk away. I had too much paint layered that it was becoming a chunky mess. I keep reminding myself that I need to practice, practice, practice!

Thanks so much for visiting ~ I hope you have a great weekend!
I'm entering this page in the following challenges:

Hi Mona! I think you have done an amazing job! David is not an easy painter, but I love the angles of the 3 white poppies, you have captured them so well. Are you using Canvas Gel/Extender or Retarder? I found retarder medium the easiest to work with, opening the painting time (leaving it wet for longer) means that you can overwork it so easily, but you have really stepped back and done a very very nice job of this! I really hope you won't throw in the towel... there's an energy and a joy in the brushstrokes, and the flowers already look amazing. They do say 10,000 hours of practice is what it takes to achieve expertise in any skill - so you just have to keep going... and when the results are already this impressive, then there's plenty to celebrate!

Ihave to say I love the colors you choose in your paintings. The last image would be my beachhouse--and the the one today would easily incorporate into my living room. Lovely! xo

From this end the white flowers don't look chunky at all, the whole bouquet is stunning... I LOVE it, now if only florists could always put them together this perfectly... my best friend does but many don't!! Good job! I could see others loving this piece as much as I do!!

Hi Mona! I love your flowers...so beautiful. I think the layering looked great, it gave the white flowers body and not flat. I know it's hard to look at our own work and not be critical, right?

Congratulations for being spotlighted in this week's PPF!!! Have a great week. Rasz #55
