Earth laughs in flowers... 27

Mona Pendleton | Friday, July 31, 2015 @ 9:01 PM | , ,

Hi there! I'm quite honored and excited to share with you that I have the honor and privilege to join along with the fun and inspiring Words 2 Scrap By challenge blog! Thank you ladies for the invitation and inspiration! Please be sure to visit the site here and join along in the fun!
The current challenge is to create a project based on one of the following book titles:

Where the Wild Things Are
The Good Earth
Eat, Pray, Love
Winnie-the-Pooh
Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus
I was inspired to create a couple of projects based on the book The Good Earth. The book title made me think of the famous quote:
Earth laughs in flowers. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
which inspired me to paint a few pages from an oversized pad of paper measuring 18" x 24". Lately I've been practicing painting abstract flowers in hopes of painting something that I'm proud to hang on a wall in my home. The first one up is rather colorful:
It was rather messy but I had so much fun finger painting the flowers!
To finish off the painting, I used the Prima Floral Petites stencil to randomly add additional interest and contrast:
Here's a photo of a step taken along the way:
Up next is my second painting featuring a vase full of blossoms:
Lots of fun finger painted flowers:

Many thanks for stopping by ~ I hope you enjoyed my projects! Please be sure to visit the Words 2 Scrap By challenge blog to see all the fabulous DT inspiration and hopefully join along in the fun!
Be Sweet ;)

aloha! I hope you are having a great weekend! Today I have a couple of projects to share featuring a variety of beautiful and shimmering ColourArte Twinkling H20s. They are packaged in compact containers but they are full of intense and shimmering color. A little goes a long way! First up, is a page in my art journal featuring a happy faced Maui beach girl :)
Here she is with just a few shades of ColourArte Twinkling H20s. I was so excited to start painting, I forgot to take a photo before I started to paint my sketch!
Not in love with her eyes as they seem to be flat and not quite animated and whimsical as I would like them to appear. Hopefully next time :)
I added lots of texture using a Prima stencil along with Prima Heavy White Gesso. The trio of shell flowers were made using shells from Scott's shell lei :)
The background and flowers were painted using the following colors of ColourArte Twinkling H20s: Stargazer, African Jade, Summer Breeze and the pretty beads are Prima Turquoise Glass Beads:
Next up is a greeting card featuring many of the same products:
Lots of layers, beads, a trio of painted blooms and seashells to carry on with the sea / beachy theme:
Lots of texture as well and a hand made banner and Martha Stewart doily:
I joined along with the following challenges:
Frilly and Funkie ~ Raise It Up!
For card sketch inspiration ~ Cardabilities:
color inspiration for BOTH ~ Words & Paintery
theme inspiration ~ scrakki-wyzwaniowo ~ The Sea
Thanks so much for stopping by ~ I hope you have a great day / evening!

a great adventure 25

Mona Pendleton | Thursday, July 16, 2015 @ 10:12 PM | , , , , , ,

Hi there! Today I have an art journal page to share that was inspired by the beautiful Hibiscus flowers here on Maui :) I brought a very limited number of supplies with me including a variety of ColourArte Twinkling H20s, Prima stamps, Prima White Gesso, Prima Modeling Paste, an assortment of stencils and my art journal. I like to try my crafty hands at anything creative, so I thought this trip would be a great time to play in my art journal having fun. Please keep in mind, I don't claim to be able to paint like Monet and I find it extremely challenging to draw faces but like to try regardless.
Here's what my initial sketch looked like before bringing her to life with beautiful ColourArte Twinkling H20s Shimmering Watercolors:
My girl kind of looks sad so my goal is to try to draw the next one with a much more cheerful expression :)
I randomly stamped the butterflies then added lots of texture using Prima White Gesso along with a couple different stencils:
For the sentiment, I used a Tim Holtz sticker with a few scribbles around it :)
I'm entering this page in the following challenges:
For color inspiration the Colour Me...! challenge

the Mixed Media World where the challenge is to create using Stencils
the Art it Friday ~ Show Your Face inspiration post.

Thanks so much for visiting :)
I hope you have a great weekend!
