a vase of pink roses 24

Mona Pendleton | Monday, May 2, 2016 @ 10:33 PM | , ,

Hi! The past week has been a little hectic around here. Scott and I took a trip to San Francisco to visit my dear son Jerry and sweet DIL April. While we were there, we walked around the beautiful San Francisco Botanical Gardens and Rose Garden which are located in the Golden Gate Park. I went a little photo crazy taking LOTS of inspiration photos to add to my "to paint" library ;) Here are just a few photos from the rose garden and a couple from the Botanical Gardens:
sweet Scott :)

Next I have a 12" x 12" painting to share that I painted for my dear friend Heather which was inspired by Gary Jenkins:
Here's a couple step shots that I took along the way:

and here are some close ups of the pink roses:

Yellow Roses 28

Mona Pendleton | Saturday, April 16, 2016 @ 1:36 AM | , , ,

Hi! I hope you are having a great weekend! Today I have an 8" x 8" oil painting to share featuring yellow roses. I'm trying to take the time to practice painting but sometimes it just doesn't happen.
I'm enjoying the process as I practice in search of my own style. This painting combines strokes and techniques inspired by two of my favorite floral artists: Gary Jenkins and Nancy Medina.

Bright Poppies 24

Mona Pendleton | Monday, April 4, 2016 @ 8:45 PM | , , ,

Hi! I hope you all having a great week so far! Scott and I spent the weekend in Los Angeles watching Connor run in a track meet and to photograph all the beautiful roses that are in full bloom. Today I have an 11" x 14" gesso painted canvas art board featuring a couple of oil painted poppies which were inspired by a Gary Jenkins video tutorial:
I love experimenting with color and various backgrounds. A black background really seems to make the colors pop right off the canvas. I'm getting pretty brave and I think I'm going to attempt a bigger size canvas to hang in my home this week :)

Bold Sunflowers 23

Mona Pendleton | Tuesday, March 29, 2016 @ 9:46 PM | , , ,

Hi! I hope you are having a great week! Sunflowers are one of my favorite flowers and one that I really want to master at painting. I've taken on line painting lessons as well as following along with dvd tutorials from several of my favorite artists and I think so far that I'm really enjoying Gary Jenkins style of painting Sunflowers the most.
Today I have a 11" x 14" gesso painted canvas art board to share featuring sunflowers inspired by Gary Jenkins Sunflowers video tutorial:
Gary makes it so easy so fun and easy to learn how to paint. He paints with such charisma and enthusiasm you just want to pick up a brush and give it a try!

I hope you have enjoyed my painting as much as I enjoyed creating it :)
Thanks so much for stopping by!
