happy Birthday to you! 12

Hi there! Today I have a couple of projects to share featuring peonies. First up is a birthday card that I made for my dear MIL who will be celebrating her birthday this Saturday, September 10th. I used her favorite two colors pink and green.
I inked up the pretty peony image from PTI's Pretty Peonies stamp set:
For card sketch inspiration, I joined along with the current retrosketches sketch challenge. While typing this post, I realized I completely forgot to glue on the sequins! LOL Oh well, at least the card should arrive in her Louisiana mailbox by Saturday :)
Up next is my painting for Day 6 of 30 in 30:
I was in the mood to paint some abstract flowers so I painted this 8" x 10" canvas featuring a few silk peonies in a blue glass jar:

You're so sweet. 21

Mona Pendleton | Monday, September 5, 2016 @ 6:10 PM | , , ,

Hi there! I hope you are off to a great start of a new week! Today I have a couple of projects to share that I created for my sweet sister Tina. First up is a rather clean and simple card featuring button cherries along with lots of white space:
I inked up the sweet cherries stem image from the PTI Everyday Button Bits stamp set then stitched on a couple buttons. Doesn't get much easier than that!
It's Day 4 of 30 in 30:
Up next is a 10" x 10" painting featuring a bowl of cherries that I painted for Tina which was inspired by an online art lesson presented by Hall Groat Oil Painting Video DVD course.
I'm so thrilled to have learned how to paint cherries! Now I can incorporate some in my still life floral paintings:

patina and silver 16

Mona Pendleton | Saturday, September 3, 2016 @ 10:27 PM | , , , , ,

Hi there! I hope you are having a great weekend! The thermometer is still reaching temperatures above 100 degree but I'm chillin' in my craft room with snowflakes on my mind ;) Today I'm joining along with Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of 2016 Technique Remix September:

Here's my interpretation of the challenge:
Creating the background tag using the Paint Patina technique went well probably because I have created projects using that technique in the past:
as for the Alcohol Ink technique using YUPO paper was a different story. It took several attempts and by the third, I was satisfied. The tag features a variety of pretty snowflakes from Tim's Grungeflakes stamp set along with a Paper Snowflakes die cut layered snowflake:
Here are a few of my other attempts at the alcohol ink technique on YUPO paper:
It's Day 2 of 30 in 30:
Today I have an 8" x 10" painting to share that was inspired by an online art lesson presented by Hall Groat Oil Painting Video DVD course. The antique silver teapot is one of the subjects to paint in the How to Paint Metal series:
I learned a lot along the way and can't wait to paint another teapot as well as a variety of other metal objects:

When life gives you lemons... 17

Mona Pendleton | Thursday, September 1, 2016 @ 12:27 PM | , , , ,

Happy September! Today I have a few very different projects to share both based on a common theme: LEMONS. First up is a card that I made for my dear sister featuring two of my favorite PTI stamps sets: Friendship Jars and Tiny Tags:

For card sketch inspiration, I'm joining along with the current retro sketches sketch challenge:
In hopes of improving my painting skills, I'm joining along with Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days September 2016
Day 1: Today I have an 8" x 8" painting to share featuring a tri of lemons that was inspired by an online art lesson presented by Hall Groat Oil Painting Video DVD course which I enrolled in recently. I haven't taken a formal art class since college in 1986 and I've been in search of an oil painting class where I can learn and expand on my knowledge regarding the fundamentals of still life oil painting. I've been considering returning to either the University or Community College to take some courses but the thought of trying to squeeze a class in my schedule was not appealing. Thankfully I stumbled upon Hall's site and it happened to be just what I was in search of! :) LOVE when that happens!
This is painting is my first lesson where I'm learning about shadows, depth and color harmony:
