Hi there! Hope you are all having a great day! It's hard to believe summer vacation for Connor and Meredith is almost over ~ only two weeks left! Early Friday morning Scott and I will be driving up North to Prescott to pick Connor up from soccer camp where he has been since Sunday. While I was washing dishes yesterday, this beautiful Great Horned Owl caught my eye as he was sitting on our backyard fence. Not sure if he was looking for my two white four legged furry friends or contemplating a dip in the pool! We live on top of a mountain so it makes for an awesome hunting spot as they can get a good view of the valley below.
On to crafty affairs...
It's time for an all new Mixed Media Color Challenge. Thanks so much to all who joined along with the second challenge ~ so many fabulous projects in the gallery! For nearly the next two weeks, we will be playing with the following color combination: light blue, turquoise and neutral:
I made a 6 x 12 decorative hanging. To begin this project, I created the background using stamped plumeria images from Tropical Sensations and added texture using Concentric Circles stencil along with molding paste and acrylic paint.
I stamped a sentiment from Cheerful Blessings on a die cut tag that was made using a Die-namics Traditional Tag STAX die then stitched in place then randomly stamped the chicenwire background from Distressed Background Blocks. To make the little house, I cut a 2 pieces of Grunge board. I covered the roof with a piece of dry embossed adhesive foil then sponged on black alcohol ink. I painted the "body" of the house with turquoise acrylic paint, added MS crackle medium then applied another coat of acrylic paint. I finished it with a metal keyhole embellishment, lace trim and a sentiment from Homespun Birdhouse.
I wanted a sandy beach look so I applied fiber paste. Once dry, I adhered my found beach treasures that Sue and I collected when I visited her in May :). I then added color using various mists including my own mixture consisting of MFT Berrylicious ink and MFT MIX-ables Sheer Shimmer Mist:
That's it from me today. Please be sure to visit the Mixed Media Color Challenge site for some fab inspiration from Sue and for complete details on how to join along.
Be Sweet ;)

Love this!
Can I ask what difference you find between MS Crackle Medium and Golden Crackle Paste? I've started collecting Mixed Media elements in anticipation of participating with this challenge!
Also, did you paint over top of your stenciled fiber paste or did you use some other method to add color?
Thanks!
Love the house with it's tin roof and pretty lace! And the sand and seashells are awesome!
Love the photo of the owl! I am fascinated by birds, especially raptors! I bet that was so cool to see him!
Gorgeous , Mona! Love these colors and love the tin roof! So creative!
Great Owl photo...I have always wanted one!
Pretty Art too!
Thanks for the sweet comments ladies :) Dana, the MS crackle medium is a completely difference consistency (like honey) and produces a much smaller crackle than Golden crackle medium. When I stenciled the Concentric Circles on this piece, I mixed a few drops of acrylic paint with molding paste. I wasn't happy with the shade of blue so once dry, I placed the stencil back on top and sponged on a darker shade of turquoise. Hope that helps :)
