Hi there! I'm so excited to have my first project to share with you today for the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge on the Simon Says Monday Challenge blog! This week we are celebrating the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge's 3rd birthday. To celebrate, we are having a birthday inspired challenge. The theme is one of celebration ~ I hope you come join in the fun!

A party isn't complete without treats to share so I opted to create an industrial inspired cake.

Quite some time ago, I fell in love with the foil technique that Tim Holtz shared here. Now Tim has designed the Riveted Metal Texture Fade embossing folder that makes all that tedious work unnecessary!

I covered two various size paper mache boxes using Metal Foil tape sheets that were embossed using the Riveted Metal Texture Fade embossing folder. I adhered the boxes together then randomly sponged on black soot Distress Ink. Now the cake was ready to be embellished so I made a variety of die cut flowers.
To create the flowers, I adhered Metal Foil tape sheets to Grunge Paper, die cut using the Tattered Florals Bigz Flower die and Tattered Flower Garland Decorative Strip. Once all the flowers were die cut, I embossed all the flowers using the French Script Texture Fade embossing folder, layered together then added color using Pink Sherbet Alcohol Ink and black soot Distress Ink.
I added a variety of metal embellishments: Idea-ology Keyhole, Sprocket Gears, Idea-ology Locket Keys, Metal Watch Clock Face and Mini Gears Sprockets. I completed the cake with a stamped sentiment from the Stuff To Say that was framed using an Ornate Plate. To add a bit of interest to all the metal findings, I lightly applied Snow Cap Acrylic paint and  black soot Distress Ink.

Mona, I'm surprised there aren't a thousand comments on this piece. You have certainly done yourself and Tim Holtz proud on this amazing piece of mixed media metal artwork. I was absolutely dumbfounded when I saw this last night on SCS! So much so that I keep going back for another look. So glad I came over to your blog, otherwise I would have missed the wonderful video of this marvelous 3D cake. It's fabulous! Absolutely fabulous. Congratulations on your newest Design Team honor. We (my husband and I) became first time grandparents a year ago - a real surprise since our children are much older. We decided to sell our home in Arizona and return to our home in Virginia. But ... since we are "Zonies" a piece of our hearts will always remain. I'm so proud to tell people that some of the best artist and designers come from my home state.

Very sincerely,
Susie Lessard ~
