A "Special" Canvas... 54

Mona Pendleton | Thursday, April 11, 2013 @ 9:32 PM | , , ,

Hi there dear blogging friends! I'm so happy it's the weekend because Scott and I are headed to San Francisco today to spend a several days visiting Jerry :) With that being said, I had to work ahead to complete a few design team projects that I will share with you next week. I had some time so I made a canvas featuring sweet Meredith :)
To create this canvas, I collaged the background with pretty patterned paper from my stash. Once dry, I highlighted each collaged piece using black ink. Black is one of those colors (Orange and Red) that really scare me but I'm learning to like them in small doses ;) How about you? Do you have certain colors that you avoid? Surely I'm not the only one?!
Along with the various blossoms is a special white crocheted one made by my dear sister Tina :) I stamped a couple of different pretty flourishes from MFT Finishing Flourishes, simply trimmed around the edges then using a sponge applicator, applied MFT Hot Fudge ink. I didn't have gray and black flowers in my stash nor did I want to make any so I applied a coat of Gesso to manufactured ones from my stash then once dry, painted the gray / silver ones with acrylic paint and sprayed the black ones with some spritz that I had on hand.
I love to play in challenges because they challenge me to think outside my comfort zone. For color inspiration, I joined along with the Colour Q challenge:
I also played along with Collage Obsession where you are to incorporate "Faces" in your project and with Hels at the Sunday Stamper where the theme is "Squares".

Thanks so much for visiting ~ I hope you enjoyed my project!
Be Sweet ;)

This is so lovely ... I love the way you cut out the photo ... and me? I'm wary of distress ink ... I always worry about making things look 'dirty' instead of aged

Love this photo of Meredith and the paper collection you used. :) Actually I'm a big fan of accenting with black, it adds a bit of drama I think. Your LO certainly pops in a wonderful and exciting way Mona. It's pastels that scare me lol. Hugs
