Steampunk Owls 37

Mona Pendleton | Friday, January 17, 2014 @ 6:39 AM | ,

Hi there! So happy it's Friday! One of my New Year's resolutions is to try to make it a point to use crafting products that I have been hoarding / collecting ! This past summer, I traveled to San Jose, California just to take a class from one of my favorite mixed media artists, Finnabair. I learned a variety of techniques and she introduced me to the magical LuminArte Silks Acrylic Glazes and I've been hooked since!

I was inspired to alter the pair of cuuuuute metal owls shown below by a project that Finnabair shared on the LuminArte blog using the techniques I've learned along the way:
In case you were curious what the owls looked like before I got my hands on them:
Here's what they looked like before I adhered a variety of metal trinkets from my stash:
I wanted the larger one to resemble a Momma owl so I used a variety of pink glazes (notice the heart adhered to her chest?)
and the smaller one, is suppose to represent a little boy owl so I used a variety of blue glazes. (Notice the key trinket dangling on his chest?) I made these with my son Jerry in mind. Silly as it sounds, he turns 26 years old next month and is getting married in March but he will always be my baby and will forever hold the key to my heart :) sniff, sniff Time just flies and our children seem to grow up over night.
Here are some close ups of each:
I love to hoard / collect metal trinkets from Hobby Lobby especially when they go on sale for 50% off
Both of their beaks were metal trinkets from Making Memories that I've had for more than 15 years!

Thanks so much for stopping by ~ Hope you have a great weekend!
