Live out loud! 61

Mona Pendleton | Thursday, January 5, 2012 @ 9:30 PM | , , ,

Hi there dear blogging friends! Are you ready for the weekend? I sure am! I've been busy studying for the ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) recertification exam that I am taking Saturday morning. UGH!!! Makes my brain hurt but it is a necessary evil for my job. To be brutally honest with you, some patients cardiac or respiratory arrest while in the Operating Room on the table and that is where ACLS comes in handy. Anyways, I took a break and made a little something.
While I had my mixed media supplies out, I made a canvas project. I have learned soooo much valuable information and techniques from taking Christy Tomlinson's online She Art Workshops. I can't stress how much you will walk away knowing when you have completed the courses! I'm trying to process it all, while working out my own style. So here's the first girl I made using my very own patterns. I have to give credit to my sweet DH Scott for finding the word rub ons used on this project. Thank you baby for ALWAYS thinking of me ;)
I recently cleaned out my stamp closet, boxing up all of my "old" stamps that haven't kissed an ink pad in years if at all!, making room for new supplies. They were sitting in the garage for several months waiting to make their way to a new home. Guess what, I brought the boxes back in the house and put the stamps to good use! Scott thinks I have lost my mind or I have been inhaling too much paint these days!
The blossom shown below is not one from the garage ~ it's a Ranger foam stamp from the Claudine Hellmuth line that has only been neglected for 2-3 months rather than years! :) LOL
For color inspiration, I played along with the current ColourQ challenge:
I'm VERY flattered and blown away with a few requests asking if I sold my creations! It's something I am considering but before I think I am ready for that, I need a bit more practice so I made this girl to give away. If you would like to have My Girl to hang in your craft room, please leave a comment on THIS post telling me how you are living YOUR life out loud in 2012 :) You have until Saturday, January 7th, 6PM Eastern. I will announce the winner on Sunday, January 8th on my CR84FN post and you will have until Monday, January 9th 9PM Eastern to contact me via email to claim her.
Thanks for visiting! Be Sweet :)

Wonderful canvas Mona - a really inspirational message ;)
I love what you mean about those unused stamps making their appearance back in the house again... I was having a clearout and before I managed to take my box out to the charity group, one (or two.. or three?!) items slipped back into my stash again, hehe!
Good luck with your exam, I will be thinking of you, and thanks so much for the giveaway chance, Rx

Ohhh I wanna win! Hmmm, let's see. Living life out loud. Well, I want to be braver and try new things, whether new crafty things, foods, get out of the ole wardrobe rut (I am trying better to actually purchase accessories :)! Also, to try and get out and enjoy things in larger venues...like the Bills game! I tend to get anxious in crowds like that, but it was so much fun! I think a concert this year is next on my To Do list. I reeealllly want to see Foster the People (even if I AM older than most of their groupies for sure!)

Kelly S. said...

Oh gosh, I didn't even say how much I LOVE your canvases! I love your girls, you should turn them into a stamp for those of us that are illustrating-challenged ;)!

I can't even imagine how you work in surgery all day, come home and cook, laundry, mother, wife, etc., and have any brain left at all for creating such lovely works of art. I bought a stamp several years ago, while randomly collecting stamps and before I even really knew how to stamp. LOL It says, Love Out Loud. And like the sayings on your canvas, I just love the license it gives us to not hold back with our love. Life is short. I had 2 surgeries close together in 2007 and another in 2008. I was 45 and 46 and for some crazy reason I had a little bit of brain melting that occurred with the first and it just got more severe with each one, but by the time we got to the last surgery and the gaping break at the bottom of my spine, I absolutely had to have that surgery. I've had to relearn how to tell time, spell, do math and try not to burn the house down multitasking
while food is cooking on the stove with no recollection of turning on the burner. I would get lost on the most familiar streets in town and panic. Which both my OBGYN and Neurosurgeon totally disregarded and even laughed at me and changed the subject when I inquired about these bazarre things. I've just had to muddle through at home by myself every day for 3 years while my husband goes to work. Paper crafting really helped with all of the measuring and cutting, scoring and folding and assembling things. I'm so addicted to die cutting!I also breed exotic birds, which is very interesting and I'm a genetics nut and love the most diversity and different color outcomes as I can get per nest box experience. But its all so time consuming to feed the birds fresh foods, hand feed babies and it takes great daily maintenance. It's like having a zoo in your house and its just not that fun any more. I'd rather be paper crafting than giving my life to the birds. LOL So for 2012, I'm down sizing my aviary to free up some time for more crafting as I'm doing birthday cards for all of the people at my husband's work, which is challenging since there are more men than women. But fun and they enjoy it so much and they all sign each other's cards. And every now and then I get to make a mini album for the new babies that come along, which is great fun as well. Thanks for sharing all of your greatnart Mona. I enjoy it so much.

Good luck with your exam.xxxxx

I sincerely hope that your exams went well; I jumped in after being away too long. Your project shows how versatile you are. I love that; stamping, quilting, mixed media, sewing and so on and so on. Very inspiring and always pure to joy so sit down, look, read, enjoy, smile and sigh :)

Live out loud in 2012? At first; being healthy, being with my family, enjoy crafting ( my own craft room is almost ready..yes!), improving and developing my cardmaking and quilting skills, more sewing...but most of all; appreciate life.....there are so may people who are suffering through a horrible disease, who lost a dear person. People in finacial trouble, stress, no work....To be honest I feel blessed. I am healthy and there are no major issues to worry about. What else could I wish for. I live my life to the fullest....
