luminescent pastel tea roses 31

Mona Pendleton | Friday, June 10, 2016 @ 7:36 PM | , ,

Hi there! So happy the weekend is here! I've been practicing my rose painting skills. I keep reminding myself that several of my favorite floral artists not only studied art in college but they have also been painting for years. Gary Jenkins has more than 40 years under his belt! He's not only a wealth of knowledge, inspiration but he's also an amazing teacher. I referred to one of The Beauty of Oil Painting books by Gary Jenkins as I painted these luminescent pastel tea roses:
I REALLY struggled painting the pink rose. I think I started over 5 or 6 times. One of the great properties of working with oil paints is that if you are not happy with your work, a little turpenoid will erase it right off your surface! :)
The base background was painted using acrylics and all the rest was painted using oils on a 12" x 12" gessoed art board:

For color inspiration, I joined along with the current Scrap Africa Mood Board Challenge:
I'm also linking this to this week's Paint Party Friday post:
Thanks so much for stopping by ~ I hope you have a great weekend!
Be Sweet ;)

The ARE luminescent! Amazing! I just went to an exhibition in Munich. The artist was Sorolla "Master of light" they call him. Your roses remind me of his wonderful art.

So very pretty and lovely! Beautiful colors too and I love your "light touch", hope you understand what I mean. There's a kind of delicacy about it.

Such heavenly paintings come from your hands...wow brilliant work! Who wouldn't want to stare at that all day long! Love the two colours together...that buttery yellow is stunning with the pink!

breathtaking Mona! The strokes done so softly in the various shades really shows the delicateness of the petals-must be the oils and I have only ever used acrylic paints. Happy PPF and happy weekend too!

I had no idea you could paint with oils and acrylics on the same surface. Your roses are iridescently lovely!

I think you have done a great job here. I don't really know much about painting although I have done some years ago...I think flowers are really difficult to do and I think you nailed it. I love this one and roses are my faves.

Mona, your roses are exquisite! I used to paint in oils and the fact that you can so easily change things made it a joy.
