White Canvas Syndrome... 28

Mona Pendleton | Sunday, September 13, 2015 @ 5:32 PM | , ,

Hi there! I hope you had a great weekend! Lately, I've had white canvas syndrome! I have the desire to create but when staring at that big blank white canvas gives me anxiety. I love abstract art but trying to create it, is quite the challenge for me. I'm working on finding a style that I not only love but one that I am able to put to good use to create a few canvas's that I will actually be satisfied with to hang up in my home outside my studio :) LOL
I was inspired by two of my favorite mixed media artists, Donna Downey as well as Flora Bowley to create this painting. I'm trying to practice painting on actual canvas (this one measuring 16"w x 20" h) although the same techniques could be very easily used to create an art journal page.
I combined doodling with stencils and a variety of inexpensive paints ;)

Here's what my canvas looked like at the very beginning once I got brave enough to apply some paint:
Here's another photo of my canvas taken along the way after MANY, MANY layers of paint:
I will keep this canvas tucked away in my craft closet so I can look back on my progress that will hopefully improve. I keep telling myself, it can only get better! I'm joining along with the current The Mixed Media Monthly Challenge - I was inspired by all the circular shapes in the photo.
Thanks so much for stopping by! Hope you have a great week!
Be Sweet ;)

Love the title of your post. It can be quite intimidating, that white space. I think your painting is lovely. The background shot reminded me of Monet's waterlily paintings. Keep on painting!
