MOMENTS 39

Mona Pendleton | Saturday, June 13, 2015 @ 9:46 AM | , , , ,

Hi there! I hope you are enjoying the weekend! Today I have a mixed media canvas to share that I made as a Father's Day gift for my dear husband Scott :) I created a collage featuring a variety of junk from my personal stash along with Prima Junkyard Findings ~ many with a personal meaning behind them which I will share with you.
Scott has many hobbies which include computers, photography and any sort of home fix-it projects. So with that in mind, from my junk stash, I adhered a couple pieces of repurposed computer mother boards / circuit panels in the upper right hand corner and bottom edge.
I featured a propeller because my Scott introduced my son Jerry to the computer game Flight Simulator years ago and now Jerry has completed his first solo flight in real life and is nearly completed his training for his private pilots license :)
I included a camera to represent Scott's love for photography. The gears, key and spark plug represent Scott's willingness to try to trouble shoot mechanical issues with our cars:
Once all the embellishments were adhered down with Prima Matte Gel and painted with Prima Black Gesso, I randomly applied various beautiful ColourArte Silks Acrylic Glazes:
I'm entering this project in the following challenges:
For color and theme inspiration I joined along with the Friday Mashup Challenge where the theme is ALL About Dad
as well as:
Words 2 Scrap By where the theme is: It's A Man's World
Anything but Cute ~ Make it Masculine

Many thanks for stopping by ~ I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

ColourArte products used:
Silks Acrylic Glaze ~ Bolivian Blue, Azurite, Ginger Peach, Cinnamon Brown, Forest Green

In case you were wondering, this is what my project first looked like: (I swapped out the burlap canvas):

WOW Mona!! I only typed one 'wow' because I was saying it out loud to myself for about 10 minutes before I could concentrate on typing!! Not only is this a spectacular mixed media work of art, but there is so much meaning in every element you included, that your creation tells a story about the recipient!! Breathtaking colours, making note of your silks for my wishlist, tee hee.

It's such a treat and an honour to have you join us at Anything But Cute for our 'Make It Masculine' challenge! Hugs, Pamellia DT :)

It's really amazing, the transformation from all the 'stuff' arranged on the canvas - to the uniform collage - by adding all the gesso's and paints - a great masculine design for Scott! Julia xx

Mona, this is just one fabulous mixed media work of art! Using those mother boards is just genius, and I love how you took us through how each item symbolized something special in your husband's life. That really touches my heart as I love to use symbolism in my own work. Your painting of all this "junk" is just amazing, too! LOVE this and so inspiring. (I love the little prop; my Mom and nephew are both private pilots and my first husband started his commercial piloting in a turbo prop) I hope you get to go on lot's of wonderful rides! Thank you for joining our Make It Masculine challenge at Anything But Cute! Hugs! Sara Emily DT
