Happy Birthday...FTTC163 49

Mona Pendleton | Monday, April 2, 2012 @ 10:00 PM | , , , , ,

Hi there! Welcome to an all new Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge! Before I get to this week's challenge, I would like to welcome the super talented Amanda Havon as our newest FTTC DT Member as well as our TWO fabulous April Guest Designers: Geri Utterback and Kazan Clark! Beate is our wonderful hostess this week and she is challenging us all to create a Birthday card.
This challenge could not have come at a better time for me because my sweet SIL's birthday is April 15th so this card is currently enroute to Louisiana :)

To create this card, I combined beautiful images from: Flourishes Botanical Bookplates Vol. 1 and Country Charm Labels. I stamped the pretty label from Country Charm Labels using VersaMark ink, heat embossed using white embossing powder then cut using a Spellbinders Grommet Tags die template. The sweet birthday sentiment is from Botanical Bookplates Vol. 1.
Love the intricate white embossed detail in the Country Charm Labels image. All the pretty patterned paper used on this card, including the lavender rose is from the Prima Meadow Lark 6x6 pack and the white card base is from the Flourishes Classic White paper pack, both may be purchased at the Flourishes on-line store click HERE.
This challenge could not have come at a better time for me because my sweet SIL's birthday is April 15th so this card is currently enroute to Louisiana :)

For sketch inspiration, I played along with the current cardabilities challenge:

Mona, I hope for you a restful Sunday after your grueling Saturday! Nurses never get the credit they deserve - which I know as a patient, as the daughter of a nursing professor, as a mother and as a sister of two nurses! I have to tell you a teeny, tiny nursing story -- Mom was having trouble breathing so I called 911 (it was me, dad, and mom on Friday the 13th). They took her to the ER (her O2 was 60 so they worked on her in the ambulance first). In the ER she talked to the ER nurse about where she, mother, had had her eyebrows tattooed on (she was a 78 yr old breast cancer survivor and her brows never came back in). Eventually they moved her up to the Critical Care Unit where we waited and waited to say goodnight. They called a Code Blue - which I now know is called something else in real life, my sister rushed us in, they stabilized her, we were giving the nurses additional information and my sister had just started to say, "DO NOT call her honey or sweetie or any of that stuff -- it's one of her biggest pet peeves." Before my sister got it all out, mother had given the instructions to her CCU nurse! AND told her (the nurse) that her (mom's) leg had slipped off the bed. She taught psych and making patients feel comfortable was very important to her as a nursing skill -- her second biggest pet peeve (I am not making this up) was not taking the coffee off the breakfast tray for Mormons! Anyway, we said "see ya tomorrow" about 3:30 a.m. and by 6:30 a.m. they called us to her bedside! She went the way she wanted to -- fast. She was a HUGE quality of life person. We had chatted with the nurses and explained one brother was in Baghdad, one in Riyadh, and they called the Red Cross to find them as soon as they called us -- AND they stayed past their shifts to give their condolences to my dad which was huge for us because we knew how tired they had to be and how little "real" time they had with mom. So anyway, thanks for what you do -- keeping those doctors in line!

PS, The card is beautiful!
