Happy Saturday! Hope you are enjoying the day :) Any big weekend plans? Not much going on for me, just waking up early in the morning around 5:00 am so I can get a bike ride in before it gets too hot. Before you know it, the Mercury is pushing 100 degrees then it's too late. My dear friend Stephanie turned me onto My Favorite Things Stamps and Dies. I immediately fell in love with their gorgeous doilies and matching border dies:
I'm always in need of a Thank You card so that is exactly what I made. I pulled out some Prima patterned paper that I embarrassingly purchased 4 months or so ago, stamped a sentiment from Waltzingmouse Rescue Remedies Additions, adorned with a multi-layered My Favorite Things Decorative Doily Duo Die and a Faux Crochet Border. Topped it off with a flower from Recollections, a seam binding bow and Martha Stewart pearl.
You may have heard on the news the other day about the intense sandstorm, aka: a Haboob, that we experienced here in Phoenix? We live on top of a little mountain that overlooks what is known as the East Valley. Here are some photos that Scott took as we watched the storm roll in engulfing our neck of the woods!
a different angle:
a little bit closer:
Have you ever seen a Haboob? So can imagine how I spent my day off after the storm? If you guessed pressure washing the patio and windows, you hit the nail on the head! Thanks so much for looking! Hope you have a great weekend! I'll be back tomorrow with something to share for the current CR84FN Color Challenge.
Be Sweet!

OMG that looks so scary! So glad to hear that you're okay. I wonder if all your craft stash is covered in a layer of sand?

Your card is gorgeous, beautiful colours. I love the MFT dies too and we can actually buy them here in the UK! :)

Beautiful card! I love that layered doily combo - it's right on my MFT list. (Which is dangerously long!!!)
The dust storm evenmade our news over here in the UK and I was thinking of you. Pheweee! I'm glad it passed relatively safely for you, even if it meant a *lot* of extra cleaning up to be done! Mother Nature certainly has a way with us doesn't she?!!

HUMMM where do I start with this post~~ The color combo is PERFECT ....... right in my sweet spot for sure!!! I love MFT's dies so much especially their rolled rose LOVE!!! The green flower LOVE ~~ paper LOVE~~ and that doily with the matching edge well that is perfect...... I love the layering of the doily too. If I wrote about what I did not like then you would not have to read so much :) I was always a bike rider ..... road bike but when I lived in NYC I kinda had second thoughts about that and when we moved to NC the back roads in the country are NO forgiving at all so now it is running/walking and ZUMBA for a few laughs LOL No matter as long as I get my blood pumping. The photos of the sand storm are CRAZY AMAZING ....... Scott really caught them and I know Curt will want to see them so I am keeping this post up to show him. Have a great weekend Mona ...... German Women's World Cup quarters today and USA tomorrow ....... I hope they both kick some booty!!!

Oh, my gosh--your photos of the haboob are amazing. Wow, I've never seen anything like it! I had to call my hubby and kids over to see your photos. I can't even imagine what that would be like to experience. Yes, pressure washing is just the kind of thing I would expect would be needed as part of the cleanup after something like that! Glad you survived OK. Anyway, your card is beautiful, as always!! Gorgeous colors on this!

Mirna said...

Absolutely incredible photos of the storm, Mona! You should sell those photos! I've never seen anything that frightening in my life! I'm glad you are ok! WOW!

Beautiful card, Mona! I love everything about it.

Haboob seems very frightening to me - reminds me of the large tornado wall clouds our area sees. Glad all you had to do was power wash for clean up.

Shirley said...

First I want to tell you what a gorgeous card! I have been resisting that MFT die set! This has sold me! The DP, die cuts, and the flowers are fantastic! Beautiful.......Now for your dust storm. I don't recall ever seeing anything like that before. TFS I am from Reno, NV. I don't think I have seen anything before from AZ about these. Oh, I almost forgot. What did you place your card on to take the photo. I love it.

Hi Mona,

I was looking at your gorgeous card, in which I love the colors, and then I scrolled down and saw that storm on your photos! Gosh, it sared me even looking at the photos! Nope, never seen anything like that, comparing to this, my little country is soooo safe! This must be really scary! Is it dangerous? Or 'just' mess-making? What happens when it comes over your house? Impressive photos!!
Hope all is well and clean with you again!

Hugs, Wendy

Wonderful colors on your pretty card Mona! love the ribbon with the pearl and your lovely new dies!

I have never heard of a haboob and did not hear that it hit Phoenix! Kent is a closet weatherman - so I'm surprised he didn't hear of it and tell me! I bet you ran quick to batten down all the hatches when it got so near to you!! It must have left quite a mess! So glad you are ok - maybe just a little dusty?!?!

Anne said...

Gorgeous card, Mona! I really enjoy seeing what you do with all the dies you use! Your creativity is always very inspiring!
Those photos of the sand storm are unimaginable! I would have been so scared! I bet it left quite a mess! Thanks for sharing!

Mona, your card is stunning. Love the colors and the fabulous stitching.

Holy cow what pictures. I saw it on T.V. and it all just looked so surreal - as does your photos. It looks like a tidal wave just coming over the city. What a horrid mess this would make not to mention breathing issues. But what fabulous photos.

Mona,
Gorgeous card!!! Love all the lacy accents! I have never heard of "My Favorite Things" - I will check them out! You should have made the photos of the haboob a separate post because I can't focus on my comments about your card now. That sand storm is like NOTHING I have EVER SEEN - except maybe in a sci fi movie - Independence Day or something - looks seriously SCARY!!!!!!! Glad you made out ok!!

BethieJ said...

I am quivering with fear at the sight of that sandstorm! I have always been terrified of tornados, etc...one too many times watching the Wizard of Oz as a kid! I'll stick to Upstate blizzards and below zero wind chills anyday! So glad only a pressure washing was needed at your house, Mona!
PS...Luckily I saw your beautiful card first before becoming totally distracted by the storm pics ;)
